Why is shipping so expensive?

Sharing information about the cost of shipping.

We understand that our shipping charges are a lot higher than you might typically see from other online vendors. There are a few reasons why this is the case.

Firstly, we only ever want to ship via tracked and insured delivery methods. Anything cheaper and the chance of your order going missing, or being stolen (porch piracy), are massively increased. We've found this to be the most frustrating experience for all involved so we'll avoid it by all means necessary.

Secondly, because of the timeline on our made-to-our gear being up to 6 weeks in some cases, we've heard from our clients that waiting an additional few weeks for shipping was a poor experience. By speeding up the shipping process we're able to keep the order within a more reasonable timeline so that you receive the gear you want in a timely manner.

Finally, the reality is that shipping itself is an expensive service. Categorically we do not make any profit on our shipping costs and, in the vast majority of cases, we under charge / subsidize to varying degrees the final cost on our end. Certain online retailers have perpetrated the myth that shipping is free (or cheap), reliable, and fast at the same time. The reality for most small businesses is far from that.

We appreciate that it can be frustrating or surprising to see a large shipping fee added onto the end of an order, but hopefully theses points shed some light as to why that might be the case.
